What is the difference between a Lunaris prosthesis and a traditional prosthesis?

The Lunaris product line stands apart from traditional prostheses due to its unique design, inspired by the biomechanics of the human body.

Traditional prostheses typically rely on rigid blades to ensure structural resistance, prioritizing safety but often sacrificing comfort and flexibility.

The Lunaris prostheses, however, separate the components responsible for stability from those that provide flexibility, much like how bones, tendons, and muscles work together in the human body.

This approach allows the Lunaris range to offer both superior comfort and safety without compromise, resulting in a more dynamic, natural, and pain-free walking experience for the user.

Who is the Lunaris designed for?

The Lunaris product line is specifically designed for individuals with lower limb absence, whether due to amputation or congenital disability.

It is suitable for unilateral or bilateral transtibial or transfemoral amputations or deficiencies, as well as knee or hip disarticulations and osseointegration.

The user's weight should be between 45 and 110 kg, and feet are available in lengths ranging from 24 to 30 cm.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact your healthcare professional or Axiles Bionics.

How much does a Lunaris prosthesis cost?

The cost of a Lunaris prosthesis can vary depending on factors such as the model, geographical region, customization options, and specific patient needs. We recommend that patients consult their prosthetist to obtain an accurate cost estimate for their Lunaris prosthesis.

Prosthetists can also contact Axiles Bionics for additional information if needed.

Is the Lunaris prosthesis covered by social security?

Lunaris Essential is now eligible for coverage under most European government reimbursement systems, making advanced prosthetic technology more accessible.

It is advisable to confirm with your country’s social security organization whether the Lunaris prosthesis is included in their coverage. Reimbursement rules and amounts can vary depending on the country and its healthcare policies.

For further details, please contact your healthcare professional.

Does my insurance cover an Axiles Bionics prosthesis?

If you are covered by accident insurance or third-party liability insurance, it is possible that the entire cost of the Axiles Bionics prosthesis will be covered.

To benefit from this coverage, you will need to prepare a file with your rehabilitation doctor and prosthetist to demonstrate that the Axiles Bionics prosthesis is the most suitable one for you.

So far, all users who have requested reimbursement for the Axiles Bionics prosthesis from their insurance have been able to benefit from it.

Is the Lunaris compatible with other prosthetic devices?

Yes, the Lunaris is compatible with most other prosthetic devices such as knee units for individuals with transfemoral amputations.

For additional information on compatibility, please contact us or consult your healthcare professional.

What are the possible levels of customization for the Lunaris?

Ankle stiffness can be customized by choosing from different spring categories. The selection is based on the device size, user's weight, and desired stiffness according to usage. During a two-week trial with Lunaris IO and IO+, you'll receive two prostheses with different spring categories to help you find the ideal fit.

The cosmetic foot covers are available in a range of colors to match your aesthetic preferences.
(Note: the Lunaris Essential comes standard in Graphene Black, with additional color options available separately.)

Can the Lunaris prostheses be used for sports activities?

While the Lunaris is capable of providing a comfortable and natural walking experience for daily activities, it is important to note that it is not designed for intensive use or high-impact sports.

Using the prosthesis for activities like running or basketball can generate high forces that could potentially damage the prosthesis or pose a risk to the user. Therefore, it is recommended to follow the provided instructions for use.

What certifications are there for the Lunaris?

The Lunaris product line is classified as a Class I medical device and complies with the European Regulation 2017/745.

The Lunaris has been tested by independent accredited laboratories and complies with the following standards: IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IEC 60601-1-11, IEC 62133, and IEC 10328.

The LUNARIS has also been tested according to the ISO 10328 standard for 2 million load cycles, with an expected lifespan of 2 to 3 years under normal usage conditions.
